Do I need to use the license keys feature?

License keys are useful if you are in one of these cases :

You are a license keys reseller : it means that you purchase some license keys in bulk and want to resell them for a profit on your Shopify store. In that case, you will probably need to add your license keys in the app and create list of keys with tags. You can learn more about it in this video.

You have a built-in way to verify if a license key is valid or not : for example, as a software reseller, you maybe have a field to check if a license key is valid or not (during the installation or on a page to access some content etc). In that case, you can check if a license key is valid by using the app API and grant access to your customers if it is the case.

You want to easily identify your customers : if one of your customers contact you to get some support about your digital products, you can make sure they are an actual customer by asking for their license keys before helping them. You can then check if the license key has been correctly delivered to this specific customer through the app.
